Early 2000s
Men are always looking for something. They know they’re in pursuit of a certain something. The bunch of those who can clearly identify what that something is and work out their course are the ones who are realistic and generally more successful. Perfectionists do not always succeed; the extreme cases usually struggle. Life can never be perfect. Basically, it’s as simple as that, but attaining reasonable degrees of perfection may definitely be good. Then there are dreamers; people who have their own sense of reality. Still, how does one define reality? Well, it’s quite simple: reality is relative! However, for an individual, a practically viable definition of reality may comprise of the constants and variables that shape his life as seen by the outside world. There is always a fine line between what a man perceives of himself and what the world does. Somehow, I believe, the finer it is, the better. Success and happiness cannot always be equated. Though the former does lead to the latter, the latter is not entirely dependent on the former. There is a blending of pragmatism, perfectionism, and dreams in each one of us. The ratios though vary from one to the other. Where exceptions are the general rule, classifications would clearly run into trouble. Unfortunately, not all things can be neatly bottled-up and labeled!
Men are curious, right from an infant to the scientist. Whether subliminal or with purpose, the quest for knowledge is perpetual. Science brings us answers, and with them, new questions. Perhaps it makes no difference to this universe just how close we get to know it. But then, how close is close enough? Men are smart things; they invent hypothetical ways to go around the territory that seems hauntingly undefined. Hail the almighty! Yet however smart they may be, they are forgetful. They fail to realize how consumed they are with their own ideas, fears, and inventions. Maybe that is how they can derive happiness. Ignorance could be bliss, but only as long as we are unaware of its existence! The moment we do realize our ignorance, we are perturbed. In the vast background of this universe, I sometimes seem so insignificant, so lost and helpless. I believe the bliss lies in accepting our ignorance and keeping alive the search for more knowledge. Men are self-aware and with a free mind they are capable of viewing similar things in contrasting perspectives and vice-versa. Nothing is absolute. At times, the closer you come to defining something, the vaguer it tends to be. Life is one such thing – an everlasting enigma. So, let’s just live our lives, try and find happiness wherever we can, and radiate the same to all around us.
